Vision and Part Viewing

Long working distance (LWD) setups generally use objective focal lengths greater than 50 mm with objective distances up to 2 m or more. Microscope imaging systems have short objective focal lengths up to 30 mm. Working distances are on the order of a few millimeters and the corresponding depths of field are a few microns. Very high demagnifications with factors of tens to hundred can be achieved, but the beam utilization can be poor.

Microscopes also require more complex illumination schemes. Automated machine vision can be used to identify fiducials and locate machining areas relative to existing features on the part.
